Postpartum Update & Life Lately

Wow I can't believe tomorrow is already February!  December literally flew by with the birth of Mila, Christmas, Masha's birthday and tons of parties.  Mila is already 7 weeks and growing like a champ.  I am still amazed at how much easier nursing is going.  I know it is definitely because of experience.  With Masha, I was worried the first month if I was doing it right and if she was getting enough.  With Mila, I just trust my gut and go with it.  I look for cues on when she is actually hungry.  And she is sleeping 6 hours at night.  Let's just say I am not waking up exhausted like I was with Masha. And another thing that works out is that Masha still naps three hours a day.  During that time, I either work on paperwork for my hub's business or get things done around the house. Sometimes I take a nap too :)  Just depends on how I feel that day or what I have going on.

Our whole family was sick for about a week in January and that was tough! I haven't been sick in such a long time that I forgot how it was. Masha had a fever for a few days and the only way she took medicine was adding it to her orange juice.  I couldn't keep any food down, but I continued to nurse and thank goodness I had enough milk supply and Mila didn't get sick.  Drinking tea with honey and milk really helped as well.

I had my 6 week check up yesterday and was looking forward to seeing my midwife and thanking her for the amazing birth experience, but she was on call.  I saw another doctor in the practice and he said everything is back to normal! He talked about birth control options, and I told him I will rely on nursing for now.  With Masha, I didn't get my period until around 20 months postpartum! I'm not sure how long I will nurse for, but definitely over a year for sure.  I feel great too!  Eating healthy and staying active while pregnant really did me well, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight after the third week.  I'm surprised how fast I bounced back, but I am so thankful because it makes it easier not to have to worry about weight.  I can just focus on the baby and enjoy her.  I remember with Masha it took way more time to lose the weight and I was pretty sad that I didn't fit into my jeans right after birth.  I didn't gain too much with Masha (35 lbs.) but still, it was my first child so I didn't know what to expect. I thought you give birth and can slip into your old clothes.

Since the doctor gave me the ok, I can finally start working out.  I'm going to start with a 30 minute routine and move up from there.  I don't want to overdue it on cardio because I want my milk supply to stay consistent.  Focusing mainly on weight training and ab exercises is my goal.  I have been walking outside for about an hour each day so I will keep up with that too.  It is nice to get some fresh air for all of us!

I'm eating everything in sight right now, literally! I love this part of nursing lol! I'm trying to eat healthy, but I am not going to lie, I have given into some guilty pleasures.  Is it just me or does nursing increase our sweet tooth?!   ;)
